Renault's power V2G is now available for private EV customers in the Netherlands | Renault Group

Against a backdrop of volatile energy markets, Renault Group is taking a next step in smart energy integration.

Renault Group, in partnership with We Drive Solar, has launched Power V2G, a Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) service for private EV customers in the Netherlands, following its introduction in France. This technology allows electric vehicles to charge and discharge electricity back to the grid, helping stabilize energy supply, reduce costs for consumers, and ease grid congestion amid volatile energy markets.

V2G enables EVs to store excess renewable energy when prices are low and feed it back during peak demand, benefiting both the grid and the owner’s wallet. The system operates automatically, with users setting preferences via an app. Renault Group has been developing V2G since 2016, and real-world tests in Utrecht and Eindhoven (with car-sharing fleets) showed significant grid relief, including 100,000 kWh fed back in eight months.

The Netherlands, with its high solar energy adoption, faces grid strain, making V2G a key solution. The service also supports Emission Reduction Units (ERUs), allowing EV owners to earn revenue by contributing to CO₂ reduction. Renault Group aims to expand V2G to more models and countries, with the Netherlands leading in Europe. This initiative aligns with Renault’s goal of carbon neutrality in Europe by 2040.
