After graduating in Naval Architecture from ENSTA Bretagne, Pierre Copeaux joined the French Directorate General of Armaments (DGA) in 2004 as a Test Engineer at the Hydrodynamic Techniques Centre in Val-de-Reuil. He subsequently served as Head of Test Facilities.
In 2011, he joined the French Navy’s Fleet Support Service (SSF) in Brest, where he was appointed Technical Architect responsible for the auxiliary vessel fleet before becoming Fleet Superintendent for research vessels and the replenishment tanker Somme.
In 2016, he was appointed Director of the SSF branch in French Polynesia. Reporting directly to the Commander of the Pacific Maritime Zone, he was responsible for ensuring the operational availability and readiness of all French Navy vessels based in Papeete.
Returning to Paris in 2020, he assumed command of the Procurement Division within the Land Combat Management Unit of the Armaments Procurement Service, where he led acquisition activities for land combat and CBRN defence programmes.
In 2022, Pierre Copeaux was appointed Program Director for the ASMPA Mid-Life Upgrade programme. In this capacity, he and his teams successfully managed the qualification of the upgraded strategic weapons system for the French Air and Space Force’s Strategic Air Forces, culminating in its entry into operational service.
Promoted to Chief Engineer First Class in 2025, he was appointed as France’s first Armament Attaché to the Kingdom of the Netherlands, based in The Hague, where he represented the DGA to Dutch defence and military authorities and contributed to the strengthening of Franco-Dutch defence cooperation.
Knight of the National Order of Merit, Pierre Copeaux holds both a Master’s degree in Public Law, specialising in Industrial Strategy and Defence Public Policy, and an Engineering degree in Naval Architecture. He is married and the father of three children.
