Meet The KPMG Meijburg & Co's Experts - 13th March 2019

In partnership with KPMG Meijburg & Co on the theme: "Brexit and the impact on the Dutch economy".

On March 12th, one day before our event in partnership with KPMG Meijburg & Co, British deputies rejected, for the second time, the Brexit agreement negotiated by Theresa May with the EU. Thus, as the final exit date approaches, the probability of a "no deal” raises more and more concerns.
Four experts from KPMG Meijburg gave our 50 guests a very interesting presentation about what would be the impact of a “hard Brexit” on Dutch companies working with/in the UK.

First, Leon Kanters, Customs and Brexit expert at KPMG Meijburg & Co, explained the customs’ impact and new duties that will apply and outlined all the additional mandatory tasks and steps companies will have to go through as a result of this cleavage.

Then Ricardo Tülkens, Operating strategy and Brexit Expert at KPMG, emphasized on the fact that one needs to be prepared in case of a hard Brexit as different areas will be impacted; such as the supply chain, the workforce in the UK or in the Netherlands coming from the UK and the currency impact, to name a few.

Marieke Enneman, Notary Public at KPMG Meijburg Legal, focused her presentation from a legal perspective. Different areas, such as conversion of legal entities or impact on capital markets, will have to meet new rules and legislation as a result of Brexit, because EU-regulation would no longer apply.

To end this breakfast seminar session, Bernard van Gerrevink, Tax Expert and Head of the French desk at KPMG Meijburg & Co, spoke about the upcoming consequences on direct tax. Taxpayers may end-up with additional costs and competitive disadvantages as EU-directives and case law, some of which are implemented also in national tax, codes will no longer apply in relation to the UK.

After the questions and answers, our guests could leave with a P.E Certificate conferring them of 1,5 P.E hours.

We would like to thank again Bernard van Gerrevink as well as the other speakers and KPMG Meijburg & Co for hosting this event and sharing their knowledge with our members.
