The Hauts-de-France region is solidifying its position as Europe’s leading hub for artificial intelligence, data infrastructure, and cutting-edge industry, following a wave of historic investments announced at Choose France 2026. With over €83 billion in commitments, the region is attracting global leaders across AI, data centers, advanced manufacturing, and green energy, transforming its economic landscape.

 

Key Investments Driving the Transformation

 

- SoftBank (€45B+): Building three supercomputing data centers in Dunkerque, Bouchain, and Le Bosquel, delivering 3 GWh of computing power and 900+ jobs, while also launching a Schneider Electric-partnered factory in Dunkerque for data center power modules (350 jobs).

- Nebius (€8B): Developing the first AI-focused data center in Hauts-de-France in Béthune, with 240 MW of computing capacity and 120 jobs, in partnership with Azur Datacenter.

- Brookfield (€10B): Expanding its AI infrastructure with a new Data4-operated site in Escaudain, reinforcing the region’s role in European digital sovereignty.

- HORIBA (€19.5M): Launching SpectrAl, a Loos-based project in smart sensors and Raman spectroscopy, creating 150 high-skilled jobs at the intersection of industry, AI, and precision measurement.

- Werhahn/Staub (€42M): Modernizing its Merville foundry with low-carbon tech, securing 400 jobs and preventing offshoring to Asia.

- PPG (€40M): Boosting operational efficiency and logistics in the region, adding 39 jobs by 2027.

- Ferrero (€30M): Introducing a new Nutella Cookies production line, a first in Europe, strengthening its industrial footprint.

- Mars (€17M): Investing in digital and ecological transition across its French sites, including Hauts-de-France.

- Enertrag (€1.1B in France): Building a 120 MW renewable energy hub in Hauts-de-France, combining wind farms and battery storage.

- GSK (€140M in France): Expanding R&D and production in Saint-Amand-les-Eaux, part of a €550M national investment (2026–2028).

- Prysmian (€28M): Upgrading five French sites, including in Hauts-de-France, to support energy transition, nuclear, and digital infrastructure.

- GXO (300 jobs): Opening a new 80,000 m² logistics hub for Action in Onnaing, reinforcing the region’s supply chain leadership.

Hauts-de-France isn’t just about data centers and factories, it’s about building an ecosystem. The "L’IA avec NOUS" summit (June 12, Lille), under the patronage of President Emmanuel Macron, will gather 1,200+ leaders, researchers, and citizens to shape a sovereign, inclusive, and practical AI future. From training programs to SME support, the region is ensuring that AI benefits businesses, local governments, and residents alike.
